Concussions

A concussion is caused from a direct or indirect hit to the head or body, making the brain rock back and forth inside the skull.  The signs and symptoms of a concussion may be subtle and may not be immediate.  Concussions may or may not involve loss of consciousness.  Either a direct blow to the head, face, neck or elsewhere on the body with an impulsive force transmitted to the head typically results in the rapid onset of short-lived impairment of neurological functions that resolves spontaneously.  In some cases, symptoms may evolve for minutes to hours.  Concussions can result in dizziness, visual disturbances and balance problems.  Most concussions (80%) resolve within 3 weeks.  Ongoing symptoms can linger much longer.  The cause for prolonged symptoms can be varied.  See our therapists for information and help or rehabilitation.
